Life has been quite simple for Meg, she has had her fair
share of hiccups along the way, but to her, all was worth it to be where she was
in her life. She lived in almost the biggest house in the valley with
her boyfriend of two years. She did her best to maintain her current position. She cooked, cleaned, and maintained a quiet demure at all times to ensure her
boyfriend didn’t think her to be too much. She had learned that being devoid
of personality was how to keep a man.
She asked for nothing and often took half of what was
offered. Her boyfriend offered her a lot, but she knew it was always a test to
see if she was wise and she never fell for his lousy trap. She was not silly,
and she wasn’t going to let her needs get in the way of being a good woman.
Jay was a good man. He never raised his voice at her or got
cross with her. They had been friends for a long time before they decided to
engage romantically and she had been more than glad. She had, however toned down
her personality after that, it often got in the way, and she wasn’t about to be
too much.
But when Jay got home that day, he wasn’t happy. Meg was
cross with herself, she couldn’t figure out what she had done wrong. So for a
few hours, she ensured she was the sweetest and softest person in the house.
She made dinner fast, changed the sheets on the bed, showered with more
body wash, wore the most conservative clothes, and she spoke so gently he
wouldn’t have a reason to be angry. She saw what she had become, but this was best.
“Why do you keep doing this, Meg?” Jay finally spoke.
She did not know what she had done wrong. So she gently laid
on his chest. Flung her bare leg over his torso and gently stroked his rough
beard. She had to soothe him, she couldn’t lose him.
“What do you mean?”
She asked. Jay began stroking her bear leg and she knew she had
succeeded in calming him down, her soft body often did that.
“I feel like you do not consider me as part of your life
Meg. I have tried everything. What is it that I’m doing wrong?”
Meg was stunned and sat up to process. What would he think
that she was the inadequate one. She was barely keeping up her act, if he
didn’t marry her soon, she would snap and show him the pompous bitch she is.
“You are doing nothing wrong, my love. Everything is perfect.
Let’s go to sleep now. You have a long day tomorrow.” she settled back on this
chest and closed her eyes. Jay breathed slowly beside her, but he did not go to
sleep. He thought about everything he had done the past two years and what he had
possibly done to lose the jovial, carefree woman he wanted in his life.
The next morning, Jay got up way before her and began
preparing for work. He made breakfast and picked out his clothes by himself.
Meg woke up not three minutes after him and his efforts quickly become
fruitless. She was running around in a frenzy, apologizing for everything on her
path. Jay finally touched her shoulder and gently asked her, “Why do you keep
doing this?”
“I want to be the ideal wife. The one you will consider
marrying. Meek and inexpensive. Isn’t that what you want?” she asked,
bewildered that she had to explain her actions to this man.
Jay rubbed his forehead in frustration.
“Can we please go out for dinner today and talk about this?”
“No need for that, we can talk at home, I’ll prepare some
chicken and rice, saves us a lot you know.” She suggested.
“No. We will be going out. I don’t see how a night out does
not help us save.” For the next three minutes, Meg explained how everything fit
together until Jay interrupted her.
“I insist. I’ll pick you up at 4pm. I’ll get off work early.
And no, you can come on your own.” She was actually about to protest.
That evening Jay took Meg on a small adventure. He sat her
down in a nice restaurant and asked her to order exactly what she wanted, not
what would save money. Meg finally decided to come clean.
“In your own words, what is the meaning of being expensive, Meg?” He finally asked.
“You know, asking for things you really don’t need just
to make your life look great and comfortable.” She retorted, sipping her drink
softly.
“Is that why you hand wash, cook all the time, and barely
have any time to spend with me? You are always too tired even for the things I
know you like.”
“What do you mean everything I like.”
Jay spent the next few minutes telling her everything he
knew about her from his earlier days of stalking her. He knew exactly who she
was, and for some time now, he thought he had done something wrong to her.
“Wanting to live a comfortable life is not being expensive. It’s the minimum requirement for this life. And if anyone ever told you that
you were expensive, it’s because they are selfish and couldn’t handle the woman
you are. I will always work hard to get you everything you want, that’s a
promise.”
The next day after a long conversation about her
conservative clothes, Jay comes home with bags of new clothing. Everything he
knew she would like. He especially loved the jeans and how they hugged her
butt.
“Be who you are, Meg. That’s the woman I am about to marry.”
